drive belts (Serpentine belts) replacement
i have a 2001 accord 4 cyl. LX auto
i need to replace the drive belts (Serpentine belts)? mine are due. but i've tried searching many forums and googling till the 30th page, but still can't find a DIY instruction for it. if it had a tensioner, i don't even think i need any instructions... but it doesn't, so i am worried about how to get the new belt tight in place. could someone please explain about this? :) thanks very much in advance. |
You are corrcect. There is no tensioner.
Alternator belt: Loosen the pivot bolt (top bolt) and the lower mounting nut. There is an adjustment bolt facing the front of the car. Turn it counterclockwise to loosen the belt, and clockwise to tighten the belt. Power Steering belt: Loosen the mounting bolts. There is a hole at the top of the pump that fits a 1/2 inch drive socket or breaker bar. This allows it to move like a tensioner. |
thanks 00AccordLX5spd for your precise and clear instructions....
i just did it in 30 min. ;) the only minor difficulty is the part where i had to hold up that slotted hole while stabilizing the P/S pump after new belt is in... it's a little difficult to have a precise tension there. you got any hints for doing well in this part? |
