driver seat moving forward when braking - replacement?

Hi!

My problem is that the driver seat on my 2003 Honda Accord Coupe v6 stick shift moves forward when I break and then backwards when I accelerate. It is about an inch of a movement.

I found the seat at a junkyard (apparently in nice condition, with side airbag, leather, electric and they're willing to give it away for $200). They are located 80 miles away.

How difficult of a replacement is it? how would I replace the seat? what kind of tools would I need?

Or can I just get the tracks from let's say Honda Parts at HondaPartsDeals.com: Honda Accessory, Honda Car Parts, Honda Auto Parts, Honda Accord Parts and just take the seat out, replace the tracks and then put the seat back on? How would I do that? Or do I get a whole new seat?

If I get a new seat, then I am risking that it will have the same issue, they are willing to take the seat back though (for a 35% restocking fee and I would have to drive there again).

Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

If you can manage w/o the car in use, I would suggest purchasing the Honda Shop Manual (ebay seller automanualsource for $21.99). This will have all the guidance to remove/install a seat. I would suspect something is loose allowing the movement, perhaps the seat base anchor bolts.

good luck

This is a common problem with 7th gen power seats. From what I've heard, it's the mechanism, and you would have to replace the entire part. Big money.

did nobody yet figure out how to fix it and not having to replace the whole seat which really is big money?
i did tighten those basic easily accesibly bolts that are visible even without disassembling it.. would it make sense to get ghe book, disassebmle it and try to tighten some bolts there?

Yes, if you have the skill to dive into the rack/pinion drive arrangement. There may be an adjustment mechanism. I don't think anyone has attempted this to my knowledge.

good luck

i have, and no there is nothing to tighten. the design is poor and it just plain wears out. short of entire seat replacement no solution. and used seats may have the same issues.

just that I have no idea how to do that.. does anyone care to attempt and take a video while doing it???
Would be extremely helpful. I wouldn't even mind paying someone for doing that.

it's just that I have no idea how to do it.. maybe if I had a detailed video on how to do it.. but I'm not very technically inclined..

if someone does it and posts detailed instruction would be great:)

You'll have to be a bit adventerous to get a repair. Unlikely that anyone else has same problem. Check youtube videos. Sometimes you get lucky.

good luck
