Engine help

1999 4cyc accord lx
Full oil to mark. Still has knocking noise when on the gas. Once after she warms up it will go away mostly. Timing seems low also. Below 500rpm marker. But runs fine not over heating.
Never owned a 4cyc before so covering all my basis before I loose money with putting her in the shop.
Could be exhaust leak at the head or knocking is by the oil fill cap on top. Not 100% sure yet.

Was going to do plug and wire change for low idol but not sure on the knocking noise on how to fix it without putting it in the shop. ????

Any suggestions?

Valve adjustment possibly. An engine knock is an unmistakeable deep conk, conk, conk. Regular and gets worth as rpm increases.

Check harmonic balancer and accessory belt tensioner carefully. These can produce a knock.

good luck

Thanks dude but this goes away once the motor gets warmed up. But ill have a mechanic buddy check it to be safe. Bc it drives fine. Otherwise.

is it just a steady clicking? or an actual thunking knock?

Ticking. That once motor is warm it goes away. Buddy thinks its value adjustment needed. But it's sure till I can leave him the car to confirm.

I just adjusted my valves (2000 Accord 4 cyl) a few weeks ago. There is still some lifter noise, but it's much better than before. The car had 170K on it and this is the first time that I adjusted them.
