Engine Maintenance Light - Diagnostic Transmission
 

Hello all,
I had engine light on and I got this diagnozied at the garage. I am told that there are three error codes (I am waiting for the codes) that point to transmission problem. The mechanic told me that that the cost for transmission usually runs in thousands ??

In terms of what I am experiencing right now - When I am driving the car seems to change gears with a bit of jerk.


I was planning to keep the car only for few more months and am not sure what can be done here.

Any suggestions would be helpful. As soon as I get the diagnostic report I will try to post the exact codes.

The mechanics suggestion was not to go to Honda as they will be super expensive for this

Currently I have about 115K miles on the car

I have the codes

which indicate transmission problems

P1676
P1739
P0780

P1739:P1739(Problem in 3rd Clutch Pressure Switch Circuit)
P0780: Shift malfunction
P1676: PCS signal failure All Trans

In terms of symptoms It seems if I accelrate too fast I can feel the car jerk a bit. I have been reading up on Honda Tranmsission problems but mine has definitely gone up to 115K milage so I am not sure if I should go to a Honda Certified specialist or Honda dealer itself

One other points I have seen some people make (controversial) is that flushing the transmission fluid(??) 3 times clears the tyranny? Not sure if this is worthwhile option?

Drain & fill the fluid 3 times doesn't magically fix everything. But it's a good starting point. Honda auto-trannys don't seem to like "power-flushing" for some reason. The torque converter doesn't drain, so each time you drain you only get 1/3 or so of the total fluid. That's the reason for doing it 3x.

I'm going to move this over to General Tech, since this is really a Welcome & Introduction area. I'm no auto-trans guru, so hopefully someone will give a better answer.

I basically wanted to have an idea on the possible options

1) Replace Transmission (anything specific on that as there are lot of variying prices offered ?)
2) Rebuilding transmission ?
3) Simply checking electrical aspects or replacing any other parts

I am considering giving my car to a Transmission specialist at AAMCO. One of the guys recommended Honda Certified place ?

Again here I got two different suggestions - if you go with Honda certified you get someone who is in that area, cons: 9/10 they will simply tell you to replace the transmission

Additional places:
pros: They will inspect the transmission and try to see if there is a simpler/economica option

cons: They are not Honda Certified

YOur thoughts and suggestions both for the problem itself and the two options. I am leaning towards AAMCO as I checked out theirs reviews online (for the specific branch) and they seem decent.

His suggestions: Will check external transmission to make sure if the codes are making sense (won't charge) and then suggest the change necessary

ndp12, did the issue resolve? What did you eventually do to get the things back to work. my car also has almost the same symptoms.
