Engine nose

Hey guys. Back story. 98 accord v6 Be sitting for 5 months. Do To a slipping tranny. I'm getting ready to replace the tranny. So I figured it would be a good idea to start the car. Went through the engine first. Pulled and check the plugs. Intake and so on. The car started right up . The Valve train sounds normal. No tapping g sounds or anything. But there is this thumping like sound coming from the front of the motor/where the belts are. Sounds like to be down in the bottom of the engine. The sound stayed the same if I revved the motor or not. Before all of this the car was running for like 15 min. But the sound was there on start up. The other thing is. The motor could not Rev past 4200 rpm. I have never tried this before so not shore if that is normal or not. The car was in park (p)

Any thoughts on this?

I'd have to do some research on the subject, however my guess is that there is a rev limiter while in Park

There are a number of members here who are much more tech savvy than I, certainly one of them will chime in

Or.... call a Honda dealership and inquire
Good luck

I've also heard about a low rev-limit when the VSS doesn't show any road speed. But I don't know much about it, like what years/versions of Accord have that feature.

Yes many cars set a low rev limiter when not in gear to prevent no load blow up.
