Engine oil
Ok, at the risk of starting another huge debate, i'll ask the question anyway...........on my 2002 Accord (4cyl, auto), the manual calls for 5w20, as this is not too common to find, am I ok to use 5w30 on a regular basis??
FWIW, I live in FL. |
RE: Engine oil
Yes, no problems whatsoever.
|
RE: Engine oil
I personally use and have almost always used 10w30 or mobil 1 synthetic....
|
RE: Engine oil
5w-30 is perfectly fine to use, but if yopu want to look for 5w-20 Castrol and Mobil both put that weight out and you can get it at most auto parts stores or Wally World

RE: Engine oil
Castrol GTX 5W30 is top shelf stuff for that car. Great detergent action to keep it all clean, but any oil will build sludge if run over it's limits.
We had a customer that swore by 7k mile oil services until the day the oil light came on from low pressure. Sludge had plugged up the oil sump. |
RE: Engine oil
Man that is a sludgeomatic! I take it that was with regular oil not synthetic----?
|
RE: Engine oil
oh no honey thats WAY past sludge-o-matic, that looks like somone dumped an oil well inside the motor.
|
RE: Engine oil
Wow, thanks for the pic hondadude...pictures speak a 1000 words. I switched over to full synthetic and change every 3k miles. Its also nice to have the syn when its below zero outside-car idles great in cold.
