Engine will not continue running
 

On my 1988 Honda accord I can not get the engine to continue running without pouring gas into the top of the carburetor. We have removed the top of the carburetor and cleaned out the things that have built up over the years in the bowl, and we also blew air through the jets so we know they are clear. We did not remove the entire carburetor only the top. Because we cleaned the jets (not sure if there are other jets in the carburetor other than the ones in the very top that we cleaned.), and the engine still will not continue to run. My next idea is to unplug all of the vacuum hoses, and see if this makes a difference. Should the car run without the vacuum hoses plugged into the carburetor without stalling, or will it do the same thing? We know that the carburetor is getting a sufficient amount of fuel to run so I know that it is not running out of gas…..Any Ideas?

Check throttle plate for opening.

Some carbed 80's cars had an idle cut-off solenoid that actuated when key is turnet to On to open the throttle enough for engine to run. If the solenoid or wiring is faulty, the throttle plate is closed and will kill the engine. The throttle plate must be open enough to allow air flow to pull fuel from the idle jet.

Can you see the fuel level in the carb bowl?

I can see the fuel in the bowl, and it is at an okay level. I am not sure if the idle jet is the jet closet to the drivers seat, or the jet that is closest to the front bumper. Are there more than the two jets on the top of the carburetor, and if so how many? Thanks for the help :D, I am going to check, and see if it has an idol cut-off solenoid.
