Exhaust manifold to block studs/nuts
Hey all, Does anyone happen to know if the exhaust manifold to block studs and nuts are a dealer only item? Thanks. Any links would be appreciated. Dealer is pretty far away.
I ordered a "Dorman help item 03105 exhaust manifold hardware" from rockauto. No go. I think these are for the actual piping from the ex.manifold end to "A" pipe. (also got the fel-pro gasket. looks good) Ive got two broken off in the block. Wish me luck with that one! Plan: A)left handed drill bit B)easy-outs YIKES! I haven't taken off the exhaust manifold yet. But, judging by the length of the broken studs that basically fell out, it looks like they are recessed :( |
Mine wouldn't budge with left hand drills and a screw extractor. Ended up drilling and tapping instead of extracting. In any case, just make sure the first drill hole is exactly centered in the broken stud.

If there's any stud left, you can weld a nut to end of stud, apply heat to engine around stud, and back stud out w/ wrench. If you have access to a welder, this is an easier method w/ excellent prognosis.
Check youtube for videos on both nut welding and drill-out procedures. As Roader says, biggest problem w/ drilling out is getting an initial central alignment and penetration w/ small diameter bit. A centering bit will allow easier hole centering. A center punch will help if room enough to swing hammer and indent. good luck |

You can get the studs from a good parts store.
It is a 8 X 1.25 stud. You will need to figure the "threaded" part and shoulder. My guess is 675-339 or 675-332 would be what you need. |
Thanks for the prompt replies! Great info and tips!! I really appreciate it!!!
