Fast Idle Problem

My girlfriend has a 96 Accord V6 that she just took in for service. As far as I know all they replaced was the plugs, plug wires, cap, rotor, and air filter.

Prior to that, she had the check engine light come on and the car wouldn't idle but would stall when she tried todrive it. When she took it in the light did not come on. The mechanic plugged in the diagnostic anyway and said that no codes popped up, so they did the service indicated above. Anyway, the car was running fine and the light was no longer coming on. She said yesterday though that when she stopped at a light the engine kept revving and she had to keep the brake on hard to keep it from taking off. I'm gonna take a look at it tomorrow and see if I can duplicate the problem, but other than checking to see if the throttle cable is sticking, I'm not sure what else the problem could be.

I don't have any experience with these new fangled computerized fuel injection machines. I'm used to working on oldcarburated FIAT's with points and no computers. What should I be looking for?

Thanks.

RE: Fast Idle Problem

The two bypasses on the back of the intake manifold. One is the Fast Idle Thermo Valve (FITV) and the Idle Air Control Valve (IACV). When they become plugged or the sensors dirty, they can cause the same exact symptoms. Take 'em off and clean them with carb cleaner.

RE: Fast Idle Problem

Well, i checked it out and could find nothing wrong. Apparently the problem only happened once. Took it for a test drive and it seemed fine.
