faulty fuel guage readings

My son's 94 Accord LX 4 cylinder has erratic fuel guage signals: sometimes it reads almost full, sometimes with lots of gas in the tank it reads almost empty. I would guess that it's more likely the in-tank sensor than the guage. Anyone with experience with this problem? Thanks.

Dave

Don't forget it could also be the wiring inbetween.

If I recall it's a fairly common issue on the 94-97's, I know my car is screwy..

RE: faulty fuel guage readings

I don't know about Accords, but on several other brands of cars the problem has been related to sulfur in the gasoline accumulating on the variable resistor element. Some have found that Techron in the gasoline works wonders. I haven't tried myself, but did have my 99 Subaru have some problems that my wife fixed w/ a can of "walmart additive", go figure!

Worth a try.

good luck
