Flashing Oil Light
Changed my own oil and filter last week (only third time in my 42 years) and drove fine for last few days since. This AM, had flashing oil light. Pulled off road within 5 km and took train to work. Very cold here last few days, if that makes a difference.
What are the first things I should do? Check oil and add more if needed? I did spill some when filling at change time. Get to mechanic? or will Lube shop be good enough? i love my honda - don't want to hurt her. Thanks from Newbie. |
Check the oil level. If it is low, add oil until it is full. Start car and make sure the oil leak is not massive by looking to see if you got a puddle under the car. Drive home or to mechanic. Find and fix the leak. Check oil filter and oil drain bolt.

Thanks PAhonda. Topped up and don't see a leak. Light is no longer flashing.
Good luck to your Steelers on the Sunday |
How much oil did you have to add? If only 1-2 qts, the flashing oil light was caused by another problem; blocked oil pump inlet screen or (more likely) a faulty oil pressure switch.
Suggest watching carefully and if oil light again appears, then check or replace the oil pressure switch. Easier to replace the switch than test the switch. good luck |
