Fuel delivery problem

My friend has a 1987 Accord 4dr 5spd, I'm unsure which model/engine code it is but I think it's A20A3. Anyway, he's been having problems with his fuel delivery system. He explained the problem to me as the car "surging" while driving, as if the fuel supply was being cut off. He took it in to a local shop and they replaced the fuel filter, everything else seemed to be alright at the time. He drove it for a couple of days but the problem was still there. Now it won't even start. It'll crank and sound like it's about to start but won't fire. Since then we've checked the fuel lines, made sure the fuel filter was installed properly, checked fuses, and checked the fuel pump. All are in working order which leads me to believe that it could either be a malfunction with the fuel cutoff solenoid, fuel pressure regulator or clogged fuel injectors/bad seals. He also told me he tried checking the fuel injectors and when he wiggled one fuel spurted out which made me think it was the seals. Has anyone had any previous experience with a problem like this or have any suggestions on what to look for? Sorry for the long post and please excuse my ignorance if I screwed up any info, I'm not very familiar with Honda's as I'm in the Audi scene myself. Thank you!

RE: Fuel delivery problem

Does it have a sunroof?
diagnostics online is just about fun enough;
third party diagnostics is just about impossible.
On the trunk lid it should say LX DX or LXi

RE: Fuel delivery problem

saying it has injectors i would have to say that it is the LXI model.....???has anyone checked fuel pressure ??when you say they checked the fuel pump and it was in working order i am to assume that there is power back there and it is putting out fuel.. ,,( main relay ) ..??,,,,,,,,.. getting spark ?? chk engine lite on when first turning the key on and goes off ??

RE: Fuel delivery problem

I'm not sure which model Accord it is because the car is at his house so I couldn't look at it and I didn't have a chance to ask him what it was but I'll ask him today. And yes, by checking the fuel pump I mean it is putting out fuel and you can hear it prime when you turn the key forward. As far as CEL's, there aren't any. I haven't had a chance to look at the car since I last posted on here but if I get the chance today I'll pull the plugs and check those. Thanks for your input guys, any more suggestions on where to look?

Did you check to see if it's getting spark? If you don't have a tester just get an old spark plug or remove one of the current ones, connect it to the wire and set it on it's side on the valve cover or something metal, have someone turn the car over and see if it's getting spark consistently, check the cap/rotor and make sure there is not excessive build up of crap on/in them, clean the contacts if needed and make sure it's not arcing anywhere else

RE: Fuel delivery problem

The plugs were replaced about 1,000 miles ago so I don't think that's it but I'll check them anyway. Unfortunately, I still haven't gotten a chance to look at it. But I did ask him which Accord it is and it's an LXI.

Anyone? Please!
you keep on asking for suggestions But have you done anything that we have suggested ??? have you checked the fuel pressure ?? have you checked to see if there is spark at the plugs ?? let us know first then we will go from there .. there is no miracle fix,, you got to diagnose then repair ...
