Fuel Gauge stuck Full

The fuel gauge in my 96 accord lx 2.2L auto is stuck past full all the time whether the ignition is on or not. The girl I bought the car from said it used to work until her dad took apart the dash trying to fix the speedo... So is the culprit a loose ground wire? Ideas?

The gauges in the instrument panel are separate replaceable. My guess it either one or more screws was not put back in or loose (the screws holding the gauges are in back of the main instrument panel circuit board are necessary, as it completes the circuits), or the gauge is broken.

Well, after reading your other posts, it may be the whole instrument panel or some wiring.

Well I got the temp gauge working. It was the coolant temp sending unit. Hopefully a new VSS will fix the speedo, odometer and cruise and the I think the wiring is just messed up on the fuel gauge cuz its always stuck full... regardless i'm probably going to end up pulling the dash though :( pain in the butt

I had this happened after taking apart my gauge cluster once. It is likely one of the 3 screws for the fuel gauge is not seated right.

in the meantime just reset trip meter on fillup and repeat every 250 miles.
17 gal tank.

I'll be sure to take apart the cluster when I get a chance and check the screws. Thanks!

I tore the whole thing apart and put it back together. I set the gauge at E and when i hooked it up and turned the key on it just rose past full again. I think the gauge is just bad or could it just coincidentally be the fuel sending unit went bad around the same time her dad tore into things?

Fuel/Gas Gauge stuck Full

Yup, I wondered what happened too. And then upon closer inspection
of the Fuel Gauge itself, low and behold one of the magnet wires
was broke and wrapped around the female screw post (the screw post
on the right as viewed from the back of gas gauge, not top or bottom posts) near the face of meter (the opposite end of where the screw is inserted). At the time of this writing, I am attempting the repair. I'll probably use CA 4000 Heavy (Super Glue Gel type) to anchor the female screw post inside the plastic to keep it from rotating from the applied torque on the screw, and somehow repair the magnet wire to the post on the right.
