fuel pump or possibly filter?
ok sorry for bringing this up maybe i didnt interest anyone but, when my fuel level gets to half tank and i brake and hte fuel goes to the front of the tank my car stalls out. the lower the gas gets the worse it gets runs fine through all RPMs and everything like that. it didnt start doing it until i ran a whole bottle of Lucas fuel injection cleaner in it and then i hit a really big hole big enough to bend my steering knuckle dont know if that had anything to do with it or not i cleaned out the IAC and the EGR i know those arent it its fuel related please help i cant figure out if its the pump or possibly just the filter the pump was replaced about a year ago

It could be the pump was slightly different (pickup slightly elevated). This might lead to loss of gas under heavy braking. I've had a similar experience w/ my 94Ex since replacing fuel pump, however it only happens if fuel level reaches about 1/8 tank or less. I suspect the non-OEM pumps may be shorter creating a slightly higher pickup elevation, hence the problem. Nothing to do but keep the fuel level up.
First time this happened, I was driving on busy freeway in rush hour and engine died. Not a pleasant experience, and it was w/ great relief the engine started after shifting to neutral and engaging starter. good luck |
The suction side of the pump has a strainer & a pickup that are supposed to reach down to the bottom of the tank. If that fell off, the pump suction is at mid-height in the tank.
No real easy solution, other than take out the pump to check whether that inlet is still attached properly. |
yep the strainer was laying in the bottom of the tank i Krazy Glued it back on and so far so good and i cheated getting the pump out heh

Hope gasoline doesn't dissolve krazy glue... Let us know if it comes back off, for future knowledge.
