Getting a new master key

Hi,

I just recently got a fantastic 97 Accord EX. However, unfortunately the keys I have are a door key and an ignition key. From the owner's manual, I learned that the ignition key is actually the vallet key, and I am missing the master key. This is annoying to have separate keys, and I can only open the trunk from the inside, since the door key I have will not work on the trunk. Is there a way for me to get a replacement for this master key, and if so, about how much would this cost?

Thanks!

RE: Getting a new master key

A master key is no problem on a 1997 Accord....'98 is a different story. Anyway, go to your local Honda dealer and they can cut a new master key by looking up the VIN on your car. This is providing that thekey combination has not been changed (ignition switch and door locks changed). A new master key from a Honda dealer for a '97 or olderHonda should not cost over $10 maximum andmost likely around $7.

Hope this helps.

Sothe door key doesnt fit the ignition and the ignition key doesnt fit the door??Theyre supposed to be the same. So the lock cylinders HAVE been changed around.

That was so helpful. I was able to get a new master key from the Honda dealer for 9.23 plus tax. I bought two of them for 20.00. All you need is your license and your registration to prove ownership and VIN no. Thanks so much:)
