H22a rebulid!
 

ok so the rings in my H22a vtec are going out and its starting to smoke progressivly more so i belive its time for a rebuild:D. Now before i catch some flack for drving to hard on it. The rings were pretty much toast when i got it.But what im posting this for is if found a rebuild kit on ebay, and im wondering if they can be trusted. its $300 so its still a little pricey but i need some other input.

What is included with the kit? Is it just rings? I personally am not sure I would trust ebay parts for such a critical system as that. You can get name brand pistons with rings for $400 or $500.

What have you done to decide its the rings that are bad?

why is it not valve seals?

idk about the valve seals . i Had a compression test ran and the guy said my rigngs are pretty much shot. and im loosing compression more and more

As crispin was saying the valve seat/seals going bad will cause the same symptoms as bad rings. The valves not sealing properly allow loss of compression and oil consumption. A freind went through this with a used b16 head. He had new nippon racing pistons (from ebay) for his ctr with new rings and was losing compression. He had the head reworked and shaved. Now the bitch screams.

A leak down test will provide better information than a compression test.

When you do a leak down test you can take the intake pipe off and open the oil cap, see which one the air is coming out. That will tell you if its the piston rings or valve seals.

Valve seals themselves arent that expensive.

Do you have an air compressor? Its needed to do a leak down test.
