Having trouble with brake idiot light.

I just bought a 94 accord lx coupe. Last week the brake idiot light on the dash came on. I looked on the forums here and I cant find my specific problem. The light only comes on when the car is in gear, it goes back off when I put the car in park or neutral. All of the lights work fine.

RE: Having trouble with brake idiot light.

Which 'brake idiot light' comes on? There's 2 of them...

Brake LAMP warning:
That one's based on how much current the bulbs are drawing. If the wattage doesn't match from side-to-side that can set it off. Sometimes that's pretty sensitive, and people have had to put new bulbs in both sides just so they match.

BRAKE warning:
1 - You forgot to release the handbrake, or the little switch at the handbrake lever is flaky.
2 - Brake fluid level (in the reservor) is low, or the float switch is flaky.

RE: Having trouble with brake idiot light.

Its on the top of the cluster next to the turn signal indicator. I checked the fluid level indicator and it works properly. The hand brake is all the way down. It only turns on when I put the car in gear and as soon as I put it in park or nuetral it goes away.
