It appears to be Honda part # 79542-SV1-A13. Look it up at the various online Honda part sites like Bernardi Honda Parts, Honda Parts Now, etc.

Thanks redbull-1. This is the only part number available for the cable whether it's updated or not. I hope when I order it, they don't send me the old version haha. I'll post some pix when I get it so that anyone in the future that needs a reference can find this thread on google.

Few minutes later: I just got off the phone with a parts guy at a Honda dealership. He checked my VIN and said 79542-SV1-A13 is the updated part # because originally it was 79542-SV1-A12. So yea, gonna order this asap! Thanks again for this great community!

Just an update, I got the updated cable and installed it but it didn't solve my problem. My valve is still 1/8 away from fully close. I now ordered the water valve control cable see if that will fix it. I read that Honda a long time ago released an TSB on how to adjust the gears in the heater control unit. I searched everywhere but no where to be found. Anyone has a copy of that? Honda service manual does not show that procedure.

I dunno if you can see the difference but that 1/16 to 1/8 of an inch less in cable gap completely closes the valve and temperature went from 50 degrees down to 40 degrees.

I am baffled as why this is happening. I just need it to pull a tiny bit more to fix the problem! ughhhhhhhh

Okay, with the help from redbull-1, I got air mix control cable problem fixed.

However, I couldn't do so without some modification to the TSB instruction so here I am writing a quick write-up on how I did it.

First, after I took out the heater control unit, I noticed that my gears are lined up perfectly so technically, I should just leave it alone.

However, here is the pix that shows the cable gap:

Obviously, if I left it alone, my problem will not be fixed.

I can order the heater valve cable and see if that will help but I determine that it probably won't because if I use my finger to act as the air mix control cable and pull the arm to the stopper, both the trap door and the heater valve will close fully. So even if I change the heater valve cable, it won't help because the problem lies in the air mix control cable being 1/16 of an inch too long.

So Instead, I decided to skip a tooth in the heater control unit so the latch that attach to the cable will pull just as bit more at max cold.

In the above picture, the long tooth of the drive gear and the short tooth of the adjacent gear should align per TSB instruction. By skipping a tooth like what I have done, I was able to shorten the cable gap by 1/8 of an inch.

The heater valve now shuts completely when I turn the knob to max cold. However, one downside is that the knob will not stay at max cold because 1/8 of an inch shorter is a bit too short which the valve and the trap door are shut before I can give it one more click to lock the knob in place. (1/16 of an inch shorter would be perfect)

So there you have it, a quick write-up on how to fix air mix control cable problem.

Oh btw, definitely buy the new updated cable. It is non-adjustable which take out the most nastiest section of the adjustment. (plus it's only $5 exclude shipping)

Hey I just want to write a final update. After I received my brand new heater valve cable, it turned out that the old one was shorter than the new one (you want heater valve cable to be longer and air mix control cable to be shorter). Anyway, there is no need to touch the heater control gears which I have reverted back to factory spec. My heater valve now closes completely at max cool with new air mix control cable and heater valve cable.
