Help with check engine light codes

I went to Advance Auto Parts store today to have them read the codes because my CEL is on my 99 Accord EX V-6 w/147,00 miles.

This is what I got. P0301 cylinder 1 misfire, P0302 cylinder 2 misfire, P0306, cylinder 6 misfire. P0300 random multiple cylinder misfire. P1399 Manufacturer control ignition system or misfire. P0401 EGR flow insufficient.

Any help on exactly where to go to chase these down? I am thinking coil or cap or wires, etc. What about the EGR? Any advice there would be helpful too.

Thanks,
Dale

RE: Help with check engine light codes

EGR is listed as one of the possible symptoms for your misfire codes, plus you have a P0401 code (EGR). The egr is a good place to start.

The link below has the TSB for a 99 V6 as a pdf, so you can download a view. Sorry that I referenced another forum, but we can't upload pdfs on here.

RE: Help with check engine light codes

Check your wires at night w/ some water sprayed liberally over the wires. If you see a lot of sparks jumping around, the wires need to be replaced. Is this engine a distributor ignition or Coil Over Plug (COP) w/o a distributor?

EGR insufficient flow means the ECU commanded EGR valve lift and was unable to detect a corresponding change in engine manifold pressure. This usually means blocked EGR passages. Since EGR valve has a sensor, the commanded lift was verified. Another code is set if valve doesn't move when commanded. Insufficient EGR flow would not be expected to cause so much missing. You may have more than one problem here.

good luck

Thanks for your help, guys. I will download the TSB and check the plugs as instructed. I will also clean and check the EGR system.

A P1259 is for the vtec, first thing. Check the oil level.

Is this car new to you?

engine malfunction light

well just been serviced mate and my mechanic said he took very little oil out of car when doing the oil change so yes the oil level would have been low. Only had car two weeks its done 130k but still runs really well its a 2.0i se exec with vtec.

This code could be left over from when it was low, did he reset/clear the codes when he checked them?
