I get a lot of questions about engine surging from our members..

Let's see if this link which I belong to will answer some of these questions that keep coming up on some of your vehicles. :)

Pretty good over all; I've got a couple comments about it.

1) Some of it is general & doesn't apply directly to Honda. For example the MAF sensor is not present in many Hondas. On newer Honda cars that have a MAF sensor, it isn't the primary control loop & it's less likely to be the cause of surging.

2) They say Honda uses FITV "beginning in 1996". Actually, I think it goes much earlier than that, back to say 1990, and ENDS in 1997 for Accord. Beginning in 1998 the Accord no longer has a FITV.

3) They talk about bleeding air out of the cooling system, but we should remember that this is particularly important for Honda, more so than for some other cars. I suspect that some people who come here asking for help might not believe that it can matter.

4) Without explaining control-system-theory, I'll just say that for Honda it seems important to set up the idle-control system properly. Look at my post in DIY about "setting the BASE idle".
