HELP Wont change gears while accelerating

my 98 accord f23a1 auto shifts fine if you drive normally but if you accelerate rapidly it wont shift just rev limits. If you kick down the tranny to pass it shifts down but then immetiately rev limits, if you manually shift down it will go to the gear you put it in even if the car is going to fast for that gear. this is a new install the old transmission went out and had to replace. Does anyone have ideas, I would really appreciate it. thank you very much..

Is the Check Engine Light on or D4 light flashing? Even if not, check for TCU codes by shorting the service check connector and reading the flash codes ( Long Flash F=10, Short Flash f=1 so F-ffff=code 14). There are several codes that don't set D4 flashing, at least on 94-97 models, maybe yours as well.

Post your results for help.

good luck

well I got rid of my cel awhiile back when i did the led conversion, a bad/nonexistant o2 and a few others led me to remove it will a code reader read it

On 94-97, you can read the code through a clear window in the ECU/TCU module. The TCU led flashes the codes w/ keyswitch ON and service check connector jumper is NOT req'd. Not sure about 98, but may be same.

Otherwise, you'll need to use an Obd2 scanner to extract the obd2 codes, which can be used to understand if there is an electrical fault behind your problem.

good luck

I would adjust the transmission shift cable to specs. This is cause of lot's of shift problems.

good luck

Go to autozone.com and use their online manual to find the procedure. Check DIY section for help also. It's a simple procedure.
