Honda Technicians - tranny question
I got a 2000 accord. I4 auto with 112000 on the clock. Tranny needs to be overhauled. I found kits online for 2-300$ from autozone and places like that. How much is the kit from honda?
Are there any special tools needed to overhaul the transmission? |
You will need 10,12,14,17,34mm socket, a short extesion, a 10mm wrench, 3/8" and a 1/2" air gun, hope you have a compressor. A couple of flat head screw drivers, a hammer, a roll pin punch to check the diff pin, a scribe/pick thingy, a digital measuring caliper. You will also need a press to get the drums apart, you will need snap ring pliers, good gasket scraper, clearance gauges as the clutch clearance are very critical. Might need a camera as some parts are hard to remember for 1st timer. Some trans gel to hold bearing in place. The 34mm nuts for the shaft might be left handed, check for arrows. Note when you take the drums apart, you will have to remember which set of clutches come from where, mark them because they're not all the same, as all the thickness of the plates are not the same. Check the diff bearings very close for pitting or if the inner race spins, if it does then you will need new bearing or might be a new diff also. Also remember how the parking mechanism comes apart, take picture if needed.
Ask for more question if you need help. |
