Lift up on the trim around the shifter and it will pop out. Just rotate it out of the way and the parking brake switch is there on the e-brake with a green or black wire coming from it.

I don't know if you can get away without removing the WHOLE console. Good luck.

Probably have to remove the shift handle & boot?
The cupholder #7 snaps out by pulling upwards.
The next piece #13 also snaps out but I always had trouble grabbing it.

If you can't reach the wire now, you have to remove the console #14.
Center bin #11 has to come out, but not easy to grab. I think there's a panel above #11 that has to come out first??
Remove the dashboard side panels to expose the screws #43.
Remove the "floor" of the storage bin #18 to expose a couple more screws.
(I hope I haven't forgotten much...)

I'm not sure which side screws you mean, but I've had the console out ('98) without removing the seats.
