how to install rear brake pads on 94 accord ?
i have just replaced the front pads but having trouble replacing the pads on the rear . i used a c clamp on the front to get the cylinder back in on the caliber but this wont work on the rear .. how do i go about it on the rear ?

Moved to the proper section, please read the "stickies" at the top of the sections.
The rear calipers on this gen "screw" in. PLEASE do not use a c-clamp on them as damage can/will be done. There are several ways of doing this....but in the end the piston screws back into the caliper. |
how do i go about getting the piston back in so i have clearence to get caliber back on over new pads ?
|
It "screws" in. The piston has a cross "+" in it. You need something (there are special tools, some use other methods) to screw the piston back into the caliper.

do i have to open the bleeder on the brakes to get it to screw back in ?

I don't ? I have a tool I put on the end of a 3/8 extention that "mates" to the cross in the piston and just screw it back in.........
Some will/have used a BIG flat head screw driver or pry bar blade to screw it in.....think of it as a "phillips" screw that needs to be screwed in. Clockwise to screw it in.... |
thanks a lot .

Many part stores have a brake tools kit that has a tool for this. I've used a wood chisel, but the first rotation can be very difficult.
good luck |

Let us know how it goes. Note the part in the attachment where you want the grove in the piston and the "nubs" on the backing plate of the pads to line up. |
Finally, if you really worked at it with a C-clamp (before getting our advice), you may have damaged the handbrake auto-adjust mechanism. Then the proper method might not work any more.
