Last night I was driving through a terrible storm. I have an aftermarket intake on my 2000 honda accord 5pd. I was driving about 25 mph on the highway when someone flew by in the lane next to me and splashed a huge puddle all over me. After a minute my fuel cut off and my lights flashed like it stalled then came back on to idle. My fuel was still cut off and I had it in neutral until it rolled to a stop. I shut it off only to find that it didn't start so I sat there a minute and tried again. It started as if nothing happened (no sounds, no sputtering, nothing...) I was able to drive home and the car runs fine this morning as well. Now my question is....even though my car is running perfectly normalshould I be concerned about engine damage?is there something I should now check/change...like oil , plugs, or anything else? Thanks alot
If it's still running, no harm was done. The water may have splashed on something to cause a stall - hard to say. I'm not a big fan of aftermarket intakes for this reason. You may want to pull the plug wire boots to see if any water is in the plug wells.
chances are it just shorted a connection on the battery or spark plugs.... if it started right up afterwards and ran fine then you're probably just fine.... when you hydrolock an engine it means that you sucked enough water into a piston to fill it, then when the piston comes up it can't compress the water and stuff bends/breaks and usually the car won't run or runs like crap after that.... keep an eye on your oil but chances are you're fine...
