Ignition keys screw?
I have a 2003 Honda Accord 4-dr 4 cyl EX. On the ignition key shell there is a screw that holds the two halves together, right where the metal key enters the shell. I want to remove that screw. Is that done easily with a jewelers philips head? The plastic broke around the screw so the shell comes apart occasionally. I bought a new shell on ebay and will use the half of the shell I need to replace the broken half. I will be replacing the half that does not have the holes for lock, unlock, trunk and panic.
The reason I ask is because I tried, by hand, to remove it with a jewelers philips head screwdriver and it won't turn esily. I just want to make sure I can use a little more force if necessary. Thank you for your help. |
RE: Ignition keys screw?
I don't know if there's a difference in screw size (I suspect not), but I just tried a ph000 phillips on mine and it fit perfectly and turned without issue (08 accord key).

RE: Ignition keys screw?
In the original manufacturing of the Key shell, they used a bit of thread lock on the screw.
You need to apply a little force but, be careful not to destroy the head of the screw. Good luck! |
