Does the ABS lamp come on when you first turn on the car (bulb check)?

jamrock 03-02-2009 11:40 AM

no the light doesnt come on when i turn the ignition on checked all the fuses under the hood and the are good

The bulb is likely burned out and the ABS light would be on if the bulb was in good condition. Even if the ABs is non-functioning at the moment, you can still drive in the snow and you will survive :D. Both of my Honda's didn't have ABS and you can still stop fairly fast without locking up the wheels. Good luck.

Or replace the bulb so you can check the ABS error codes. It may be something easy to fix.

Exactly, but the bulb might have to be purchased from the dealer (I think it's one of the super long ones that looks like an LED but isn't) and even if you get that, you still have to tear apart the 5th gen dash to get the gauge cluster out.

does any one know how to check the abs codes and where can i find out wat the codes mean?

PAhonda 03-02-2009 08:32 PM

Its pretty easy. You short a service connector under the glove box and count the flashes from the ABS light. That is why it was suggested that you fix the bulb first.

Find the service check connector & short it with a paperclip, just like you do to read engine error codes. But the ABS light will flash instead of (or along with) the CEL.

When you turn on the key, it flashes like this...
1 flash & long pause - this isn't part of the code yet.

short flashes = first digit of error code
short pause
short flashes = second digit of error code

long pause
short flashes = first digit of next code
short pause
short flashes = second digit of next code

Each code is 2 digits. If the same code repeats, that means it's the only one stored.

After they repeat something like 3 or 4 times, they reset.
