Question Just Replaced door and Now OBD Code

Hi Guys,

Just joined this forum hoping for some help. My sister has a 2002 Honda Accord and she is a victim to a hit and Run on her driver's side door. So, I found a door for cheap, from the same year car and same paint color.

So, I replaced the door today, and I get an OBD II code. I scanned the car and it shows that there are no codes present.. ( I just used the scanner on my car, so I know the scanner is working correctly).

I believe it has something to do with the security system since half the car's electrical features do not work. Only driver side window, you can only power unlock the doors not lock and even the interior lights don't work.

Should I replaced the door lock and actuator? Does that contain some type of security system that tells the car that something isn't right?

Hope this is an easy fix!

Thanks for the help in advance!

-John

The trouble code would help narrow down any problem, even though it may or may not be related to the door. If you can, please post the code when you can get it.

When you replaced the door, did it come with the electrical switch (part of the arm rest)? There is a multiplexer as part of the driver's side switch. There also is a reset procedure for the multiplexer, I will post the rest instructions in a bit.

Did the interior lights work before the door replacement?

Yup, everything worked before, no Codes at all. Also, it was just the door, no interior panels and I used the same switch on the arm rest, but I did have to unplug it.

Maybe because it was unplugged and plugged back in, it would need to have the multiplexer reset?

Thanks for the quick response!

This is the reset procedure for the multiplexer system. Turn the intermittent wiper ring (on the wiper switch) to its mid-position, then turn the ignition switch ON and OFF. You may need to do this simple resetting procedure if the intermittent wiper ring is below its mid-position when fuse No. 54 (40A) in the under-hood fuse/relay box was removed and reinstalled, or after the battery has been discharged or disconnected.

When you refer to the interior lights, certain ones or all lights don't work?

For the interior lights, have you checked the fuses?

All interior lights do not work. Only the drivers side window works and you can't keep the headlights on without the car being on. It seems like the car is in a protection mode.

I will try this resetting procedure and also check all the fuses. Maybe I tripped one, while working on the door.

Does each door lock, pertain to each security system in the Accords?

Is the Accord an EX or other trim level (e.g., LX, DX)?

The EX has a different factory installed security system than the optional Honda accessory security system available for other trim levels. However, it is a centralized security system, with different switches, etc. that are tied into the central unit.

Generally, the security system would not cause what you are describing. It sounds like it could even be a ground issue, or some wire(s) shorted to ground. Check fuses, any electrical connectors near the door areas; check wiring, connectors are tight, etc., unplug and inspect then reconnect.

Getting back to one of my earlier questions, did the lights work before the door replacement? If not, then this may point to some wiring or connector issue near the door after the hit and run.

I believe it is a LX. Not too sure how to distinguish though.

I will re-check everything tomorrow and check grounds etc..

And yes everything in the car worked before. All the switches functioned and all lights worked. The hit on the door looked as if something big slowly backed into it.

I'm feeling something might have come loose now, because it does seem odd.

Thanks for the help redbull-1!

The EX had a sunroof, alloy wheels, etc. and I believe the factory security system on the EX had an LED on the driver's door.

Here are the installation instructions for the optional security system available for the LX and DX.

However, I don't suspect the security system is the culprit.

Yeah it is an ex. It has the security led, sunroof, and alloy wheels. I will work on getting my scanner back. And in a few minutes I'm going to recheck everything

Ok, so I go to check the ODB code and it reads that there are no codes

So the check engine light is on but no codes are present.
