Low Fuel Light

1999 4-Door EX V6, ~117K miles
My low fuel light indicator has not worked for months. I can live without it, but it would be nice to fix it.
Does anyone have any suggestions, tips? I'm really hoping I don't have to get behind the cluster panel.
Thanks.

I Agree, your gunna have to replace the bulb. getting behind the cluster isn't hard at all.

It might be the sender back at the gas tank?

On a 99 accord, does the fuel light typically turn on for a second when the key is first turned to the II position? I know that the 5th gen Accord fuel light does not turn on at the II position.

Before you replace the bulb, you should be able to test the fuel sending unit. You should be able to short a connector at the fuel sending unit, and the low fuel light should turn on. I don't know which pins to short, but a shop manual will have those details.

I used to have a 98, and I recall the fuel warning lamp does NOT light up during the bulb-check.

That warning lamp is not under the control of the ECU, it just has a contact-closure at the fuel sender. So its like the oil pressure lamp. Butthe oil pressure lamp comes on simply because the oil pressure IS ACTUALLYlowbefore you start the engine.

Thanks.
I haven't taken off the panel before. I guess it's time now.
