Mpg

I bought an '03 Honda Accord Coupe with the V6 engine and I Love it!! Good power, good handling and so much more that I don't have to tell you all about!

The only downside is the gas mileage. I think when I first got it and I was figuring out how to drive it I got like 28 mpg. Then I got more comfortable with the power and how it handled and now I'm only getting 25. Or less if I really punch it. But not less than 23 mpg.

How is everyone else doing MPG wise?

Thanks in advance for all answers!!

2003 4-cyl 4-door manual tranny.
We got as much as 40 mpg on an all-day interstate trip, while behaving ourselves.
Now my daughter drive all short trips in the city, gets about 24 mpg.

I think it's my lead foot that's most directly related to my lousy gas mileage. :) But 70-80% of my driving is highway and I can't even come close to 40mpg!! What can I say? I wanted the power of the V6 but didn't realize the mpg would be so low!

Well, you can look for other stuff, like dragging brakes, suspension alignment, or underinflated tires.
Automatic tranny?

But like you say, your right foot has the most powerful influence over MPG.

I don't think it's anything mechanical that's causing the low mpg. It's my lead foot! My car is an automatic. The only other possible factor is new tires. Michelin MXV Primacy's. Great tires. Before that it was the original tires that came from the factory. 5 years old and they were BF Goodrich's with 39k on them.

Lately I have been getting about 24 on the high side w/ 85% interstate never exceeding 70. Now that it has warmed up a bit my mpg has risen slightly as compared on each mark but I wont know til I fill up in a few days.

When I first got my Accord and had the I/H/E I got 33 mpg on the highway. I loooong for those type of mpg's again. I maybe WOT my car once a tank.

i dont get a MPG reading on mine, but i filled up completely on Friday and have done 250 miles since - and its showing exactly half the tank.. Will know an average value when i fill up next time.

I have an '03 4cyl EX-L sedan, and about a year ago put an AEM cold air intake on it. Last time on a highway trip, fill-up to fill-up (all expressway), I got a remarkable 48 mpg! Cold air gives a little more horsepower and a little growl when accelerating, but the 48 mpg is sweet. Usually about 23 - 26 mpg in town.

wow. How do you get numbers like that? All stock there or any special stuff (like the cold air intake the guy above mentioned)?

I barely broke 30 mpg on a long trip where I cruised at 73 mph on an entire tank of gas.

I was aiming above 400 with only motorway cruising.

what mods have you got??

Underworld 02-19-2009 05:56 PM

got 49.96 Litres in the tank and i had done around 370 miles.
comes up to 33.8 mpg if my calculation is correct
??

cold air intake will help alot, so i ended up with 289 miles at 23mpg.

That's imperial gallons. It's about 28 miles per USA gallon.

Only engine mods are removed air intake resonator and a DIY oil catch can between the valve cover and intake manifold, almost forgot, no A/C and no power steering systems in the car. If it helps, the intake manifold and EGR passageways and ports were thoroughly cleaned recently. Otherwise, no mods, standard NGK plugs, new cap and rotor, and a fresh valve adjustment.

That 457 was mostly city, with about 25% highway in temperatures between 0* and 30*F. I got 515 miles all highway driving to Florida and back.

All on a standard F23A1 with 194,000 miles and a lead footed driver :D
