Hey whats up? I'm new to this site. I found it while I was looking for answers to a problem that my car has. I just bought a 91 Honda Accord LX with 130K on it. I have driven it for a week and it ran like a dream up until last evening. I was just getting up to speed from a stop light and all of the sudden the car started to lose power, all the while shaking and shuddering. So i shut the car off while coasting and restarted it and it returned to normal. Here is another weird twist to the story; the check engine light comes on periodically even since the first time I experienced the engine problem. But get this...now the engine light only comes on when the engine is running fine, and it never comes on when I am experiening the real engine problem (shaking, shuddering, losing power, etc). Does anybody have any ideas as to where i might even start to look for potential causes??? Please feel free to tell my anything that comes to your head in regards to this. I am really grateful for any feedback at all. Thanks.

 

Look for the procedure to jumper the SCS connector & read the error code. That'll help narrow down the troubles.

 

What are the RPMs at when this is happening? It may be EGR ports or valve. Is your car auto or manual?

 

I have a '93 auto with this same problem. I just did my distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs & wires (mostly because they needed to be done, hoping that this problem would be corrected), and still have the same behavior. My problem is not so severe, it only shudders slightly between 1000 and 2000-2500 or so RPM, and it's only very noticable in 1st gear. Possible causes?

 

Is the check engine light on your 93 as well?

 

I HAVE A 2000 HONDA ACCORD SPECIAL EDITION
NOW THE ENGINE LIGH IS ON AND THE CAR IS SHAKING,SHUDDERING AND IT LOSES POWER TOO!! THE RPMS GO UP THEN THEY GO DOWN SOMETIMES IT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS PULLING THE CAR!! ANYBODY HAS ANY IDEA WHAT COULD BE WRONG WITH MY CAR

No... but it seems that the problem has gotten even less severe. I think it may be something to do with the gas in the car. I'm going to try some fuel system cleaner and see what happens after the next fill up.
