from neutral to drive
i have read many article about how auto trainsmission cars when come to a stop light put it in neutral to save gas and help the transmission to last longer. and when coming to a stop light u can just let the car roll with it on neutral. is it bad for a auto tranny car to switch from neutral to drive all the time while its in motion.

RE: from neutral to drive
Not while in motion.

are u sure?

RE: from neutral to drive
yes, its bad. its not that bad though, it will just wear out the transmission faster.

RE: from neutral to drive
what you save in gas (if anything) is not ever gonna be offset by the cost of killing a trans because you kept taking it in and out of gear anyway...btw anything above 1000 rpm and the ecu disables the injectors so it isn't buring fuel when you are coasting. Anything below 1K and car burns fuel as ECUidles the motor.
want to save gas? coast as much as you can to a stop, keep ur foot out of the throttle..... |
RE: from neutral to drive
damm ive been doing it in the past 3 days do u think there are alot of damage done? i just go from work to home but alot of stop lights and stop signs so i tend to do it alot.

RE: from neutral to drive
You can sortajudge the damage by the amount of jerking the car does as you shift back into Drive. If your road-speed & RPM were just right that it happened perfectly smoothly, then you didn't do much damage.
Just don't keep doing it. It really doesn't save hardly anygas. For a LONG stop (freight train?) put in Park & turn off the engine. For normal red lights you're probablybetter off leaving it running. |
RE: from neutral to drive
i just hope that i didnt do too much damage to my car's tranny
