Newbie Question on Hyd Clutch

I have a 1995 EX with a 4cyl 5peed. The clutch fluid has been leaking and leaked out once to where I had no pedal. filled it up and pumped clutch ok for about 2 months. It did it a second time and won't pump back up. Local shop says I need to replace master cylinder, hyd hose, slave cylinder and whole new clutch. To the tune of $1800:eek:. In my thought the hyd system just replaced the mech. linkage to the clutch, why would this cause the clutch to need replacing? Any ideas or experience?

I don't know why you'd need a new clutch, unless he was able to measure how far worn-out it is. Still that's completely separate from the hydraulic problem.

Where does it leak?

Even replacing the entire hydraulic system doesn't need to remove the transmission, so NOT replacing the clutch itself would save a bunch.

This belongs in General Tech, so I'll move it.
