NGK Spark Plugs. Basic vs Iridium vs Platinum
Hi,
I need to replace the spark plugs on my 1999 Accord EX. I did some search on this forum and saw some recommendations that it's better to use basic (NGK ZFR5F-11) spark plugs. What are the benefits, if at all, (and is there any harm) in using the Iridium (NGK ZFR5FIX-11) or platinum (NGK PZFR5F-11/NGK ZFR5FGP) spark plugs? Other than saving some money by going the basic ngk plugs route. :-) thanks |
The benefit is that you don't have to change them as often.
A member on this site said to use what is recommended in the owners manual. Accords not designed for iridium plugs had cold start problems. |

Iridium plugs last longer this is why they cost more too... NGK are one of the best plugs and you wont feel any difference in performance gain or lost. They work great!

everyone in this thread is wrong. the oem PZFR5F-11 is not "basic" nor does the "iridiums" last longer. the IX iridium: only the center electrode is iridium, the outside electrode is nickel or something cheap, that's why the "basic" platinum PZFR5F-11 lasts longer, both electrodes are platinum. the ix iridiums do not last as long and that's why they are cheaper
