No compression doesn't make much sense. Even if you slapped some vavles you would not only see damage but you should still get compression. On one or two cyls.

It is possible that it jumped several teeth a d that could be causing these problems. What is the sound on start up, is it like a flat battery or like a fubared engine?

Get prepared because this is not going to be a simple fix... At least in my opinion.

The sound of an engine with NO compression is like the sound if you have removed all 4 spark plugs. Normally you hear the engine slow down during each compression stroke, but with sparkplug removed it spins fast & even.

Does that help you to describe the "strange sound" when cranking?

Yeah that's pretty close to the sound, no resistance. Haven't been able to tear into yet. My thought is to just take the head off and check the valves. Anyone know where to find a decent used motor.

I'd figure out for sure what is wrong first. But you can check car-part.com to search local junkyards for engines.

I don't think you're to the replacement engine stage just yet; I'd be checking the timing marks first.

So my bro decided he wants to just change motor due to his lack of maintenance and being run with low oil constantly. I still plan to diagnose this motor after I take it out since I also have a 2000 accord. If its not to $ to repair we'll just have a spare. Is it better to remove motor out from the top or bottom. It will be done without a lift. Thanks to everyone for there input. I will post back if I ever pinpoint the problem!!

Do you have a cherry picker to pull the engine?

Yeah. Was reading its easier to remove out the bottom but that seems difficult without a lift.

Agreed; the last car I pulled the engine from the bottom was a 1966 Renault 8. I dropped the engine on the ground, a buddy (the owner of the car) and I lifted the rear and rolled the car over the engine, and then we carried it into the garage for a tear-down.
