Noisy clutch pedal

I have a 2003 Accord EX-L 5 speed with original clutch (83,000 miles). Recently I have been experiencing a periodic "hitch" in the clutch pedal accompanied by a clicking noise. The shifting operation is not affected and the car is running fine, but the pedal mechanism doesn't feel as smooth as it used to. Has anybody else run into this?

RE: Noisy clutch pedal

Sounds like the early signs of clutch failure.

RE: Noisy clutch pedal

You could have someone work the pedal while you watch the throw-out lever on the tranny. If the hitch is accompanied by a funny action in the lever, then the trouble is in the clutch (inside the bellhousing). If not, then the trouble seems to be external, in the hydraulic system.
