OBD-I Upgrade to OBD-II????
Hey I got a question....& I'm pretty sure its not possible. Got into a debate with my friend stating that it's possible to upgrade OBD-I to OBD-II & I know its not possible unless you change out your ECU or something.
Answers please...Thanks |
Even if you switch the ECU to a OBD2 ECU(which would be a wiring disaster), the sensors the OBD2 ECU would be looking for wouldnt exist.
So I would say no it can't(within reason) be done, and really no reason why you would ever want to do it. |

I knew it that it isn't possible....(well it is but its not easy as you think)

You'd basically want the OBD-2 wiring harness along with the OBD-2 ECU. Then you'd have to install the OBD-2 versions of all the sensors on the engine & exhaust. Some of which are mounted differently so you need (for example) an OBD-2 oilpump because that's where the CKF/TDC sensor is mounted.
You'd need a whole different EVAP system because it needs all the sensors & solenoids to check whether your gas tank is airtight. Pretty soon it becomes easier to sell the car & buy a newer one. |
