Occasional Poor Acceleration

I have a problem that is intermittent. Sometime if I've been driving gently in traffic in my 1999 automatic sedan 4cyl when I need to accelerate flooring the pedal does not result in acceleration. This can be dangerous. The car is very well maintained but I still have this problem.

Can anyone please suggest a remedy?

Also can anyone recommend a good Internet parts supplier?

Thanks

HAphil

RE: Occasional Poor Acceleration

I had a similar issue when starting the car the accelerator was sluggish. Check the obvious things like spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor. But, what helped me was a fuel injection cleaning service at the dealer. They use this stuff called BG44K, and they do a 3 stage cleaning of the fuel system. You can buy BG44K from some dealers as well, its expensive though! Honda didn't want to sell it to me. I just got it from the dealer across from them.

Hope this helps at all. Good luck, I also have a 1999 Honda Accord 4 cylinder EX.

Thanks. I'll try additives for a few tanks and see if that helps. I'll try to find the product you mentioned.

Any advice on the Internet parts supplier?

I bought a '96 EX back in April and it was running rather sluggish and idled pretty rough too when I bought it. Since then I ran 2 cans of Sea Foam through it in the gas and the car purrs like a kitten now... you might give that a shot... HTH... :)

Thanks. Any advice on an Internet parts supplier? Everything here takes month to order and receive.

The Sea Foam can be bought at your local Advance Auto or Auto Zone. If you're wanting to replace the plugs you can get the NGK's there too. Be sure you stick with NGK's when you replace them too.
