Oil consumption on Accord LX 2007 ?

Hello everyone. I'm wondering if it is normal that my engine is burning oil. I bought it used 3 month ago and did 1500 miles with it. When I first cheked the dip stick when I received the car, the oil level on the dipstick was full and now, 1500 miles later, the level is almost at minimum. Is it possible that the dealer(not a honda dealer)how sold me the car put something else that 5w20 oil as recommended and this is why the oil level is so low? My car has currently 15 100 mile on it. Thanks for you help !

RE: Oil consumption on Accord LX 2007 ?

Make sure you're parked on a level place when you check it. And you need to check way more often than every 1500 miles...

Over time you'll need to figure out whether it's burning or leaking. Keep an eye on the ground underneath where you park.

They probably didn't put oil of TOO much different weight in there, since it won't really save them any money. That won't really cause much of the leaking or burning.

2007 se oil consumption excess?

Rather than start a new thread this one fits good. I am the original owner of my '07 accord se 4 cyl. 144,000 miles. Since Nov. last year I have averaged 900 miles per week for work and my oil consumption has gone up. I drive 80% freeways 75-80 mph. I have run mobil 1 extended performance full syn. since my last dealer change when it had 30,000 miles on it. That oil claims you can go 15,000 miles between changes I would never go that far usually change about 5-8,000 miles, yet when I changed it tonight 6,500 I was only able to pull 2.25 ish quarts out of it. Usually I check every 2,500 or so but didn't and had a dry stick at 5k miles. It has always burned a little oil but not this bad and just had to replace cat convertor at 137,000 in January due to carbon. I haven't had valves adjusted yet could that be the issue? Thank you in advance.

Suggest checking PCV system components; valve, hoses for working condition and no blockages. Blocked PCV system can cause increased oil consumption.

Have you looked for leaks? Place cardboard mat under car and examine each day for leaks noting where the drips fall relative to engine compartment.

Reduced accelerations will also reduce oil consumption. When you accelerate hard, crankcase pressure goes positive and oil vapors are pushed into the air intake increasing oil consumption.

good luck

No oil leaks garage is dry all the time. I will check the PCV System. I have been watching my accelerations and my mpg has proved that I am doing better. Thank you.
