Oil disapearing??????

Ya, in my 96 accord 2.2 L Vtec, i filled it up with conventional 5W-30 about 5k miles ago.... and i checked it 2k miles ago, and it was in between 2 dots on dipstick (i filled it to max when i changed it) and now after 5k miles its BELOW the bottem dot on the dipstick... YET it runs extremely cold and NEVER overheats.... WHERE THE HELL IS MY OIL GOING???????

p.s.... NO IM NOT BURNING IT (no black smoke) or if i am, how?

P.S.S i just bought 5 quarts of Pennzoil ULTRA Synthetic, and i AM going to change this oil tomorrow.... i guess i'll see how much drains out of it....

P.S.S.S it only has 106k miles on it?

lots of possibles...if it is not leaking out? Check the engine all over while changing the oil to be sure no signs of leaks.

When was the last time you checked/cleaned the PCV.

Some leak sources to check;

1) oil pressure switch on rear of block near oil filter,

2) rear balance shaft cover - check for drainage from bottom of lower timing belt cover

3) front balance shaft seal - pull upper timing belt cover and inspect w/ light/mirror

4) valve cover -check around perimeter for leak paths

5) distributor -check where distributor meet cylinder head and for drainage from distributor cap. A new distributor end oring will stop distributor/cylinder head leak, but leaking from cap requires either a delicate and tedious distributor repair (no assurance of success either) or replacement distributor.

6) As Poorman advised, PCV blockage can cause oil to be pushed into intake system. Inspection of PCV and intake duct (very oily) will determine if this is the problem.

good luck

If it was burning approximately 1 quart of oil (the two dots between the dipstick was approximately 1 quart on my previous 5th gen Accord) over 5,000 miles that would be normal for many cars. However, check the items as suggested above by other members.

Thanks redbull, broke my two coffee rule :)
....yes, 1 qt in 5k miles....prob not much to worry about.

so is it the PCV valve? because i think i could go let honda change that up... it only has 106k miles on it though?

If it dropped ~1qt in 5k miles....don't worry that much.....a Honda service manager will tell you 1 qt every 1k miles is normal...

Changing the pcv valve is VERY easy...it would take you all of about 5 minutes. Center-left to the rear of the valve cover is a plastic valve with a hose to it...pull it out of the vc, move the clamp on the hose (?- not even sure there is one and I'm too lazy to look right now-sorry) pull the valve out of the hose....reverse with new valve.
