oil filter location!
 

Hi guys,

my Honda Accord SE Executive 2 liter year 1999 has been off the road for the past one year, tyres off the ground, battery disconnected for the past 4 months. 12 months ago, it was fully serviced by a mechanic.

1st: in a week time it will be back on the road. I do need to change the oil, so I opened up the bonnet and couldn't locate the oil filter :o :o surely it has an oil filter, but where is it? :o

2nd question, do I need to do anything else apart from flushing the engine oil and changing the oil filter?

If its like mine, you need to go under the car and the filter is behind the oil pan.

Reach it from underneath, it's on the back side of the engine pointing towards the firewall. There's no room to reach around the intake manifold from the top.

Is there anything else I should do (service wise) before switching on the engine?

Actually, I guess after refilling the oil, I'd take out the sparkplugs & pull some fuses to disable fuel & spark. Put a little bit of oil in each cylinder, maybe an ounce or less. Crank the engine with the starter for 5 or 10 seconds.

Sitting for a year some of the oil will drain out of the bearings, especially the camshaft. That should fill the oil filter & circulate the oil without the stress of starting.

It started first time! wow! but then it won't engage to ANY gear! nearly soiled front seat! lol pushed the car while engine running a bit forward and back, tried and tried the gears and eventually off it went to 1st gear and after a few yards, oh boy there was no stopping it! really sweet and beautiful!

will have to do its MOT (yearly test) next week! fingers crossed for me!

Auto or manual gearbox?

Auto-check the fluid level. Honda auto trans like to be checked after they are warmed up.

Manual-could be a few things-rust on the flywheel that needed to be "knocked" off. Check the fluid in the trans, also check the clutch (brake fluid) fluid in the res.

Then again the brakes could have had enough rust on them to keep it from moving...why do I think that, the Chevelle only goes a few miles per year ~500 maybe. So it sits, if I'm get lazy the brakes will rust up, so I have to rock it backwards and forwards to "free up" the brakes.

Yeah, it is a manual gear box and the breaks were rusty!

I have been driving it everyday (only short distances) and it has been running absolutely sweet. I have checked all the fluids and they all seem to be normal.

No issues in engaging in any gear! :) good news! :)
