oil leak
 

Hey guys, i have another question for you,94 honda accord with the 2.2 L vtech engine.I have an oil leak and i just found out where it is coming from, It is above the oil filter on the back of the engine and what looks like and oil sending unit or switch.It HAS electric wires coming from it.I looked up oil sending unit for it and it came up oil sending switch so im assuming that is what it is.Can anyone verify? If it is how hard is it to replace? it may even just be loose i dont know i cant get my hand up in there yet ,have to wait on a set of ramps.

Yes, Oil switch/sending unit,,,,remove the oil filter for more room. Put a socket on it-correct size...done....the rubber boot with the wire might be hard as a brick, you'll have to figure that one out

I read some where that the threads are tapared so you have to be careful not to tighten to much or you could strip out the hole in the engine for the switch ,is this true?

I did this repair on my 95 accord. The threads are standard british pipe taper.

The oil sending unit is crimped metal/plastic, so you can damage the unit by overtightening. They sell special sockets for sending units. The shop manual says to use proper liquid sealant. I cleaned the threads in the block and used a small amount of RTV on the threads of the new sending unit. The torque is 13 ft-lb, so just tighten to this spec.

The threads are tapered British pipe thread, but you'd have to really crank on it to strip it out. It's easy to replace; just tighten it down pretty good.

Yes as stated, the switch is 1/8 inch pipe threads....just like the plumbing in your house....so if the new switch does not come with some "coating" on the threads then it would be a good thing to add some.

Speaking of which, any member on here happen to be a plumber? I'm in need of some advise/help.
