P1167 Error

Someone PLEASE help me!!!! My car, a 1999 Honda accord LX 4 cyl needs to be inspected this month (Oct) my check engine light was on. We pluged in the reader and it had code P0420 (Catalyst pressure below threshold bank 1) So I got a new converter for my car and had it put on. Reset check engine light with the reader. Now it displays code P1167 so we changed the front O2 sensor with the universal one. Same code. So we bought the good one for my car, reset light and BAM SAME FRIGGEN CODE......... sooooo we also changed the sensor that is on the cat it's self and same code. I am loosing my damn mind. After the code P1167 it says "Manufacturer specific DTC see service manual". I need some serious help!!!!!! I can't even find anything in my owners manual about the o2 sensors or anything. HELP HELP HELP!!!

P1167 is for the Air/Fuel Ratio sensor, which is a wide band sensor. A normal oxygen sensor is narrow band.

Most likely your car has the F23A4 engine, which needs the A/F sensor. Also, do you know what sensor brand and part number was installed?

Does your engine say "ULEV" on it? The engine number is on the engine block, directly to the right of the top radiator hose.

Check whether the engine is a F32A1 or F23A4.

It says F23A1 and it does say ULEV on the engine. So on Autozones website would part# 234-4620 work for it???

When I checked before; usually, the ULEVs were F23A4 engines, while the non-ULEV engine were F23A1. Hmmm?

Denso 234-4620 is a regular oxygen sensor.

Denso 234-9025 is an A/R ratio sensor.

If your engine is a ULEV, it should use the Denso 234-9025; hence your DTC code of P1167 for the A/F ratio sensor.

Now you made me very curious. Can you double check the engine number again? :)

redbull-1 do you have an e mail address I can send the pics I just took to? it definately says F23A1 and it's a ULEV

Actually I just created a photo album in the photo gallaries at the top of the page and I put the 2 pics on it. Go check it out and tell me what you think. THANKS A TON!!!

The ULEV engine is F23A4.

But I bet the valve cover fits interchangably. Maybe someone switched??

The error code P1167 doesn't exist for the non-ULEV engine, so if it's throwing that code, it seems like the ECU is for a ULEV. Therefore, you need to use the wideband sensor.
