P1457 code correction. Location of canister?
 

My 1998 Accord DX 2.3L VTEC; I had a P1457 code "EVAP Emissions System" "Control Canister System". I have found from other threads that often salt used in winter storms can cause corrosion in the purge valve and solenoid. It sounds silly, but I cannot find the vapor canister! Any ideas?

Also, I am just beginning to build this car and am starting with suspension/brakes. I am only installing parts that are high quality/functional. No "rice boy" crap! Input appreciated on suspension. Brembo brakes is what I am leaning toward currently.

what i have founf going bad for code p1457,, is the evap 2 way valve and the evap bypass solenoid valve ,, located by the fuel tank.. BUT i live in AZ no rust here ,, you might want to have it properly diagnosed before you start replacing components

In '98 the canister is located underneath the car, justforward of the gas tank. Roughly below theleft-rear seat.

Purge valve is in the engine compartment, but the common failure seems to be the canister vent-shut valve. That one's located on the outboard end of the canister, rather close to the left rocker panel & rearjacking point.

Make surethe C-V-S valve isactually broken before spending $50 on a new one...

Road salt gets in em and eats them up. That's why DH doesn't see many, they dont use much salt in arizona.

Bypass and 2-way valves are getting a lot more common than they were a couple years ago.

X2 Dont throw parts at it. Diagnose, then repair.

So to test the components... apply 12V to the solenoid to check for action, and about the mechanical valves? How do I actuate them, with a vacuum pump?

Yeah, apply 12v & check that the valve changes state. I forget which ones are normall-open or normally-closed.

When my C-V-S valve failed, it didn't even clickwith 12v.

More checks...
Be sure to check the circuits,in case the valve is OK but a wire is broken; you get the idea...

For each of those solenoidvalves, one wire should have battery voltage from the main relay. It's ON all the time as long as the car is on.

The other wire goes to the ECU which closes the circuit to ground when it wants to energize the valve.
