Question Fuel gauge/pump problems?

Hello all,
Found a good informative post by TexasHonda from back in 2007. Have a couple more questions on this subject.

I'm running out of gas quicker with each tank fill. Gauge shows more gas than is in the tank. Last time I ran out of gas it took only 5 gallons to fill the tank. Buzz under the rear seat on driver side gets louder and louder the closer it gets to running out of gas.
Is this the fuel gauge, pump, ets.

I don't know if the 89 pump is similar, but newer pumps have an inlet pickup clamped onto the pump. It's like a tube/nozzle thing that reaches down to the bottom of the tank to suck fuel through a mesh screen.

If that has fallen off, the pump now sucks fuel from a mid-elevation in the tank. Once the level gets down to 1/2 or so, the pump begins sucking air.

Thanks Jim.
Found the tank and fuel sending unit very rusty. Fuel gauge sending unit also very rusty...probably explains the eradic fuel gauge.
