power window switch no working?
 

hey all,
aside from my 98 daily drive i have a 91 2dr lx also.
and just last night my drivers side window switch got messed up somehow.

switch can control the power mirrors on both side fine and the passenger side just fine.
but drivers side it can only roll the window down, and not up.
so i went ahead to take the door panel apart to see if there was any loose connections.
after unplugging the harness to the switch and plugging it back on, the passenger side window stopped working too.
weird..so i checked all my fuses, in the cabin and in the bay, everything seems to check out fine.

leaves me puzzled on what this could be..a faulty switch? or my wiring has gone bad?

sounds like the window motor took a crap on you. if its an original window motor on that 91, i wouldnt doubt it. you could try lubing the cables and other moving parts of the system when you remove the door panel. try silicon spray grease or wd40.

really?
but it does roll down just fine.
just doesnt roll back up. i dont even hear the sound of it trying/ struggling to close
after taking out the switch the passenger side only closes and doesnt open.
relay maybe? wiring? or the switch itself?

well it might not be completey gone, but its probably close, plus its fighting gravity.

after further diagnostics i found out my harness is giving out power and the wiring is all intact.
fiddling with some of the power lines trying to close the window i blew a fuse and the window stopped moving completely.
swapped in the new fuse and it started working one way again.
so far i conclude it is the switch...going to buy one to day at the junkyard and see whats up.
crossing my finger that the problem will be fixed :)

get a new switch but before you open the box , take the old switch out, take it apart and see if the contacts are dirty ,, if so, clean the contacts and plug it in and see if it works
