Problem with Fuse 47 Since we had a new Key made
 

My son and I have a 1998 Accord Coupe. He lost the key this last week end and had to have a new one made. After he got the key made the car would not go in to drive. He was using the bypass until we figured out that Fuse #47 under the hood was fried. He replaced the fuse and it worked but since it has burned two fuses out. He never had a problem prior to getting this key made. I also replaced the brake lamp switch because I thought this was the problem initially. Any ideas out there from someone? I am running out of ideas on this. This car has been an extremely good car I have owned since 2003. I don't want to get rid of it I know it probably is some thing easy. Please help

What components are not working when that fuse it turned off? Is there a label other than #47? What size fuse (amps) is in there?

Humm, a few things protected by this fuse.

OP- you'll have to do a little checking on these things......

I think we have narrowed it down to a short on the horn. We took the horn relay off and now fuse #47 does not blow. With the horn relay in fuse 47 will blow. Is this going to mess anything else up. I know the security system seems to work with the horn relays since the headlights blink now when we shut it off.

I'd go down the system a bit further. What happens if you unplug the horn(s) and have the relay in place....or now that I think about it, test the relay for a short.

Now we are getting a check engine light, any ideas?

Stop by an autoparts store and have them read the codes. Post the code on here. It will start with the letter P and have four numbers, like P1234.
