Problems identifying 5-way connector in a 1999 Honda Accord
 

Hi All,

When replacing cabin/pollen filter in my 1999 Honda Accord (UK version) I noticed a freely hanging 5-way light blue connector with 4 wires: PUR, PUR/WHT (or WHT/PUR?), WHT/BLU, WHT/GRN coming out of the middle of the lower wiring harness that runs along the bottom of the glovebox, fairly near to the filter cover as shown in the picture attached. Next to it is a 2-way connector, also light blue, with 2 wires: BRN and GRN/BLK.

What system does the 5-way connector belong to? I didn't notice any differences whatsoever after reconnecting it to the only matching light blue connector I found in that area.

My a/c isn't working at the moment but there's no gas in the system because of the leak, so if these circuits belong to the a/c system it'll only start working after a re-gas.

Do the two outlets (that are not part of the wire harness) have any wires going into them, or are they dummy connectors?

Good point. The receiving connector I plugged the one in question into appears to be empty: it is just attached to the bottom of the evaporator case and no wires come out of it. As for the smaller receiving connector I didn't manage to reach it from behind as there's not enough space to stick a finger between it and the case.

P.S. Btw the larger connector turned out to be 5-way not 6-way one.

Those are likely connectors to get error codes and read live computer data on your car.

Agree with PAhonda.

The 2-P connector should be the Service Check Connector, where you can use a small wire to jump the terminals to retrieve any trouble codes by counting flashes on the dash indicator lights.

The larger connector should be the Data Link Connector, which is used with a dongle and Honda's diagnostic equipment for accessing trouble codes, etc.

Thanks for your replies. Interestingly my car is also equipped with a 16-pin DLC/ODB2 port/interface: a few months ago I obtained a trouble code using my ELM327-based reader connected to that port. Are any particular trouble codes that can only be read via the 5-pin "legacy" blue connector by chance? Maybe not all systems in this car model were migrated onto ODB2 back in 1999 when it was made?
