Programming key question, please advise
 

Hi, I have a 2007 Accord. I purchased a key blank online and now I would like to have it cut and programmed. I spoke with a guy at a locksmith and he said he could do it for $50
One stealership wanted well over $100 to do it and another one quotes different prices each time I ask :confused:

I have read in these forums and other places that only the dealer can make the keys work with the immobilizer chip. However, this locksmith said he could make the key work. Should I believe the locksmith? Or should I just bite the bullet and take the key to the stealership.....

refer to dealer. ask me how i know ;) make sure you bring all the keys so they can be programmed as well, otherwise you'll end up with a valet key or extra key that won't start the car....have yet to find a locksmith that has the HDS hardware and current programming capability.

Thank you, I suspected that the locksmith was just trying to make a sale :p. I swear, I don't know why they even try such crap when they surely know they can't do it....

Seems as tho the dealership is just as bad as the lock smith, they keep changing prices for their work on you.

Usually, last time i checked, it was 75 bucks for the key/cutting from the dealership and then 100 bucks programming. they shouldn't charge for additional existing keys to be programmed.

Crap, $170 for the dealer and $50 for the key is a lot of money... These cars are just a license to steal. The key cutting and programming should not take more than 30 minutes. That's $340 per hour charge. My doctor visits are fraction of that :P

No, the $75 was for key and cutting. You already have the key, you just need the key cut and programming.
