Rattling/Knocking on Acceleration
I have a knocking sound coming from the front of my 2000 accord (automatic). It occurs when driving straight or turning. The noise also occurs when giving it a little gas while in drive sitting still with the brakes on. Sometimes the noise can be slightly heard during ignition. The sound seems to get less obvious the longer i drive, and sometimes not at all when accelerating. All the CV joint boots are still sealed, no leaking (i just replaced the left axle and it was not the problem although it the inner CV joint was bad and rattling). The sound only happens when accelerating from around 1500 to 3000-4000 rpms in first and second gear only. It is quite a loud sound, definitely something serious.

RE: Rattling/Knocking on Acceleration
A loose heat shield around exhaust manifold, catalytic converter or muffler can cause this noise. Also check for loose or missing exhaust pipe hangers. It may be worth paying to have someone w/ a lift carefully examine underside for problems. If you have jack stands you can safely lift car enough to crawl under and examine.
Since noise occurs some on ignition, this would suggest the drive train or suspension is not involved, something on or attached to engine. good luck |
RE: Rattling/Knocking on Acceleration
I have checked the whole exhaust and have not seen any problems.

RE: Rattling/Knocking on Acceleration
Could it be control arms if the car is not moving?
